Illustrated Guide to Welsh Raindrop Forms, Vol. VII
This mid-century modern print is inspired by the work of pioneering Victorian rain “scientist” Sir Arthur Vandelay III. It features a reproduction of a plate from his celebrated monograph 'A Characterisation of Precipitation Phenotypes in Wales: An Illustrated Guide to Welsh Raindrop Forms, Vol. VII (1887)'. A bold and beautiful piece that will enliven any wall and provoke discussion.
Further notes:
In the interests of brevity (and with the permission of Sir Arthur's great, great, great, great grandson Sir Arthur Vandelay VIII), we’ve shortened the title. Due to what appears to be a smear of Sainsbury’s own-brand English mustard on the only surviving copy of the book, the exact location of the specimen collection site is uncertain. Our recreation is therefore based on our own painstaking research. In conjunction with local academics, historians and some boffins we met down the pub, we have identified the likely original specimen collection point as being an alleyway behind what is now a bar called Kegbelly in the Cardiff suburb of Whitchurch. Kegbelly is a lovely place to while away an afternoon with a few pints.
