The setting is Cardiff - though not the one most people picture, with its stadium and well-travelled statue of Aneurin Bevan. This design instead looks to Cardiff-by-the-Sea in Encinitas, California. It’s a small coastal community north of San Diego, known for surf spots, a laid-back atmosphere and long Pacific beaches. Developed in the early 1900s, it was named after Cardiff in Wales by the wife of J. Frank Cullen, who grew up in Caerdydd - we’ll place him somewhere in Roath for convenience. The surrounding streets were given British names, though Welsh ones are notably absent. A bright, relaxed design that brings together Welsh identity and Californian coastline.
