This mug design forms part of the wider series of modern Welsh surname crests — not tied to any single historical coat of arms, but built using the visual language of heraldry. Jenkins is a Welsh surname meaning “son of Jenkin,” with Jenkin itself a diminutive of John (from Ieuan / Ifan in Welsh), whose etymology is rooted in the meaning “God is gracious.” Like many Welsh patronymic names, it carries that sense of lineage — identity passed down and gently reshaped through generations. The shield is kept simple and centred: a green field framed by a gold border. In heraldic tradition, green (vert) is associated with growth, renewal and the land itself — something rooted, fertile and ongoing. The gold (or) border acts almost like a containing line, suggesting value, continuity and inheritance. At the centre stands a white lamb, shown mid-step. It carries echoes of the Agnus Dei — the Lamb of God — the long-standing Christian symbol of gentleness, sacrifice and quiet strength. The phrase Agnus Dei is closely associated with John the Baptist, which creates a subtle link back to the name’s origins. At the same time, the lamb remains unmistakably Welsh: tied to upland landscape, farming tradition and a pastoral identity that runs deep through the country’s history. Behind it sits a rising sun, radiating outward in clean, even lines. In heraldry, the sun often represents life, clarity and renewal. Bold lines and flat colour keep the crest modern, while the symbolism draws confidently from older religious and heraldic forms.
