Jones is one of the most widespread surnames in Wales. If you shout "I love you Mr Jones" at the top of your voice in any Welsh highstreet you are going to get a lot of strange looks - and some of those will be from people with the surname Jones. The name itself comes from “son of John" (with John coming from the Hebrew Yochanan, meaning “God is gracious"). The shield is built on a green (vert) field which is associated with land, growth, and continuity. It’s a fitting base for a name so widely used across Wales. In the middle there's a gold fess dividing the shield. Above the fess sit three crescents, evenly spaced. Crescents traditionally symbolise growth, renewal, and the idea of something emerging or increasing. They are often associated with younger branches of a family. There’s a sense of quiet repetition here - fitting for a name that appears again and again across the country. Below, a white lamb stands mid-step. As with other designs in the series, it carries echoes of the Agnus Dei - the Lamb of God - linking back, to the name John and its biblical associations. This design forms part of the wider series of modern Welsh surname crests — not tied to a single historical coat of arms, but built using the visual language of heraldry.
