This design is inspired by vintage produce labels, reworked with a Welsh and Argentinian angle. At the centre are two cheerful cartoon cherries, described as being from Trelew in Patagonia. Trelew has a strong Welsh background. Founded in 1886 by settlers, its name comes from “tre” (town) and “Lew,” after Lewis Jones. It sits in the Chubut Valley within Y Wladfa, the Welsh colony established when settlers travelled over 8,000 miles to create a new home for their culture and language. It’s a long distance from Cymru, but the link still shows through place names, chapels, tea houses and the continued use of Welsh. The design uses bold shapes and limited colour to keep things clear. Checkerboard detail and block lettering give it a retro look, while the characters add movement. A playful graphic built around a place often described as a distant piece of Wales.
