This design sets the natural world against the reality of pollution in a clear, direct way. It shows a whale’s tail rising from the ocean beneath a setting sun - but instead of open water, the surface is filled with plastic bottles, stacked where waves should be. Mostly Coke, Sprite and Fanta by the look of it. It’s not far off the truth. Plastic makes up the majority of marine litter, with millions of tonnes entering the oceans each year, much of it carried there by rivers. Beneath the image sits the Welsh phrase “Cadw’r Rwtsh Allan o’r Môr” (“Keep the rubbish out of the sea”). The design keeps things simple and graphic, using bold shapes, limited colour and a strong layout. A straightforward design with a clear point - the ocean shouldn’t look like this.
