At the centre of the design is a cheerful lemon character, walking through a pine forest in Pembroke. He’s recently become a grandfather, though it doesn’t affect the rest of the scene. When people think of Pembroke, they usually picture the castle, Henry VII, coastal mist or chips on a harbour wall while fending off a seagull. This image instead points to Pembroke Pines in Florida. The name comes from Sir Edward J. Reed, once MP for Pembroke, whose land company bought large areas in the region during the 19th century. A nearby road carried the Pembroke name, and when the city was incorporated in 1960, it became Pembroke Pines, referencing both that link and the local landscape. Pembroke in Cymru suits crops like leeks and potatoes, while Pembroke Pines has the climate for citrus. The design uses bold shapes, limited colour and a layout inspired by vintage fruit crate packaging. A retro-style graphic with a slightly sunnier take on a familiar name.
