Inspired by the much-loved Welsh nursery rhyme “Mi welais Jac-y-Do,” this fine art poster shows a jackdaw standing smartly on a rooftop in a Panama hat, looking like a bird with appointments to keep. In keeping with the original song, he also sports two wooden legs — a detail that seems entirely reasonable in childhood and only becomes strange much later. The illustration uses a geometric style with bold shapes and a restrained palette, giving it a modern, tidy feel while keeping the humour intact. The character carries himself with real assurance — part gentleman traveller, part overseas operative with excellent cover. “Mi welais Jac-y-Do” means “I saw a jackdaw,” opening one of the most familiar traditional children’s songs in Wales. A playful, stylish design built around a classic rhyme, clean shapes and a bird with unmistakable presence.
