This design takes its cue from the classic Welsh nursery rhyme “Mi welais Jac-y-Do,” featuring a jackdaw perched neatly on a rooftop, Panama hat on, and looking entirely satisfied with how things are going. We’ve stayed fairly faithful to the original rhyme, so attentive viewers will also notice the fellow has two wooden legs - one of those wonderfully odd details that feels perfectly normal when you’re singing it at the age of four. The artwork uses a geometric illustration style with a limited colour palette, keeping everything crisp, modern and playful. There’s something quietly confident about the character - like a well-dressed businessman abroad, taking everything in his stride and perhaps carrying out the odd task for British intelligence. “Mi welais Jac-y-Do” translates as “I saw a jackdaw,” the familiar opening line of one of Wales’ best-loved children’s songs. A clean, character-led design built around strong shapes, a famous rhyme and a bird who clearly knows more than he’s saying.
