This design centres on Elegug Stacks on the Pembrokeshire coast - two tall limestone pillars rising straight out of the sea just along from the Green Bridge of Wales. The illustration keeps things simple, using bold shapes, flat colour and a compact layout focused on the stacks, the water and the low sun sitting just behind them. The stacks were once part of the mainland cliffs, gradually separated by centuries of erosion as the sea cut through the rock. What remains are these two isolated columns standing just offshore, and they look properly spectacular. The name Elegug comes from the Welsh word for guillemot, one of the seabirds that crowd the ledges here in huge numbers during nesting season.
