This design explores the cheerful theory that Elvis might have been at least partly Welsh. Set beneath the Preseli Hills, a recognisable figure stands eating a burger, sunglasses on, collar up, and looking entirely settled in west Wales. The style has a retro graphic feel, with bold black outlines, clean forms and a gently faded palette. There has long been speculation - entirely unofficial, naturally - about Welsh links. Some people note the similarity between Presley and Preseli. Others bring up Eglwys Elvis, a small church in Pembrokeshire named after St Elvis, said to have baptised St David. Elvis’ mother was named Gladys, often said to connect with the Welsh root gwlad meaning country or land. None of this would survive serious scrutiny, but that rather misses the spirit of it. A playful design built around folklore, landscape and one of music’s most recognisable faces.
