This design is a celebration of the egg and spoon race. It has a playful, retro feel, with a simple character-led scene showing a spoon and an egg mid-race. The figures are slightly exaggerated, with expressive faces and just enough movement in the legs to suggest that this is going to be a close call. The limited colour palette and soft, slightly textured finish give it a gentle, old-school look that suits the subject perfectly. “Llwy v Wy” translates as “spoon vs egg”. At the heart of the design is the age old question -who would win in a race between an egg and a spoon? The egg-and-spoon race is a familiar part of school sports days, Contrary to popular belief the first egg and spoon race did not occur when Theodorus Jacobus Spoon (a 19th century Dutch colonial administrator) raced Augustus Leopold Egg (a 19th century British painter). However, its roots can be traced back to the 19th century. A simple, character-led design built around a familiar childhood event.
