This design draws on vintage produce labels, reworked with a playful Welsh and Argentinian twist. At the centre are two cheerful cartoon cherries, both from Trelew in Patagonia. Trelew has a strong Welsh link. The town was founded in 1886 by Welsh settlers, with its name combining “tre” (town) and “Lew,” referring to Lewis Jones, one of those behind the settlement. It sits in the Chubut Valley, part of Y Wladfa, where settlers travelled over 8,000 miles to build a community and keep their language and culture alive. It’s a long way from Cymru, but the connection is still clear in place names, chapels, tea houses and the Welsh language itself. The design keeps things clean and graphic, using bold shapes and limited colour. Checkerboard detail and block lettering give it a retro feel, while the characters add movement. A playful design built around a place often described as a small slice of Wales - just much further south.
