This design is part of a series of modern Welsh surname crests. It's not taken from any one historical shield, but instead we've made it by bringing together the meaning of the name with common heraldic symbolism.  The name is derived from the Aramaic t’oma, meaning “twin.” It became widely used across Wales following the spread of Christianity. The shield is set on a blue (azure) field. Running vertically through the centre is a gold (or) pale dividing the shield into dexter and sinister halves. In heraldry, the pale often represents strength, unity, and a central path, which works particularly well here given the name’s meaning of “twin". On either side of the pale sit two white swans, mirrored across the shield. Their positioning reinforces that idea of duality — balanced, facing inward, almost reflective of one another. Swans in heraldry are symbols of grace, loyalty, and quiet strength, often associated with calm waters and steady presence. Beneath them, stylised silver wave lines run across the base of the shield, grounding the design.
