This design has a retro space-age feel, with soft muted colours, clean lines and simplified shapes. It looks a bit like a mission badge from a programme you’d definitely sign up for. The astronaut has landed on a distant world, taken “un cam bach” (one small step), and planted the Welsh flag firmly into the ground. “Bydda Mam ddim yn credu hyn,” he’s thinking. It forms part of the Welsh National Space Agency series, imagining Cymru taking its rightful place among the stars and spreading the iaith y nefoedd across the universe. There’s something hard to beat about the Welsh flag appearing on another planet — surely Earth’s finest flag, with honourable mentions to Bhutan’s jewel-clutching dragon and Nepal’s wonderfully non-rectangular effort. A clean, playful design mixing Welsh language, space travel and a slightly expanded sense of national ambition.
