This design focuses on Bardsey Island (Ynys Enlli), a small island lying off the tip of the Llŷn Peninsula. It is a well-known part of Cymru, recognised for its seabird colonies and windswept cliffs. The island sits along a major migration route, and each spring and summer large numbers of puffins, guillemots and other seabirds arrive to nest. Bardsey Island also carries a long history of spiritual significance - once the site of a monastery and known as the “Island of 20,000 Saints.” The combination of wildlife, history and isolation sets it apart. The artwork uses a bold, lino-print style with clear outlines and strong shapes to suggest the island and its birdlife. A simple, confident design built around one of Wales’s most distinctive coastal islands.
