This design takes inspiration from Hafren Forest near Llanidloes, one of Mid Wales’ great woodland landscapes. The artwork keeps everything pared back with bold forms, tidy lines and a low rising sun framed between the trees. The forest is named after Afon Hafren, the Welsh name for the River Severn, which rises nearby on Plynlimon / Pumlumon, Mid Wales’ highest mountain. Just beyond the forest, the river begins modestly as a small flow in upland peat before gathering pace and dropping through the woods in falls and rocky cascades. Much of Hafren Forest was planted in the 1930s, predominantly pine and spruce. Walking routes follow the river out towards places like Blaen Hafren Falls and the wonderfully dramatic Severn-Break-its-Neck.
