This design looks back at the Monico Cinema in Rhiwbina (Cardiff). For close to 70 years it was a familiar neighbourhood cinema, opening in 1937 with room for around 950 people. Over time it screened a mix of films, including titles like Jaws: The Revenge, Speed 2: Cruise Control and Street Fighter: The Movie. The building closed in 2003 and was later replaced by a block of flats. The artwork captures the scene with a strong 1980s feel, showing the cinema front lit for an evening screening of Back to the Future - a moment you might revisit if you had a DeLorean and a working flux capacitor. Bold outlines and bright colours keep the image clear and graphic, drawing on the look of old cinema posters and neon-lit streets. A nostalgic graphic built around a small but memorable piece of Cardiff’s local history.
