This design centres on a cheerful cartoon lemon, taking a walk through a pine forest in Pembroke. He’s just become a grandfather, which is noted but not especially important. For most people, Pembroke brings to mind the castle, Henry VII, sea mist from Freshwater West or chips on a harbour wall with a watchful seagull nearby. This design, though, refers to Pembroke Pines in Florida. The name links back to Sir Edward J. Reed, MP for Pembroke in the late 1800s, whose company owned land in the area. A road took the Pembroke name, and when the city was incorporated in 1960, it became Pembroke Pines, referencing both that history and the surrounding trees. While Pembroke in Wales leans toward root crops, Pembroke Pines has the warmth and soil for citrus. The artwork uses bold shapes, limited colour and a layout inspired by fruit crate labels to keep things clear. A playful, retro-style design with a small story behind the name.
